A specialized reverse proxy and gateway for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), providing centralized management, authentication, rate limiting, and observability for multiple MCP servers.

mcpgate is a 'day-zero' project (0 stars, 0 days old) attempting to solve the middleware requirements of the emerging Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem. While the problem it solves—securing and managing distributed MCP servers—is a valid enterprise pain point, the project currently lacks any defensive moat. It essentially applies standard API gateway patterns (reverse proxy, auth, rate limiting) to the MCP/JSON-RPC spec. Frontier risk is high because Anthropic (the creator of MCP) or major cloud providers like AWS (via Bedrock) are highly likely to release managed MCP gateway services or 'MCP Hubs' to capture enterprise traffic. Furthermore, established gateways like Kong, Tyk, or Envoy could easily support MCP with minor plugins. Without a massive head start in community adoption or a unique architectural breakthrough, this project is at high risk of being bypassed by both official protocol evolutions and established infrastructure players.
