SSRT is a legacy stop-gap project for Blender artists. While it provided value during the early years of the EEVEE engine (which lacked native ray-traced global illumination), it has been almost entirely superseded by 'EEVEE-Next' in Blender 4.2+. The platform owner (Blender Foundation) integrated native raytracing directly into the viewport, rendering third-party shader hacks like this obsolete. Quantitatively, with only 36 stars and 1 fork over nearly three years, the project lacks the community momentum or technical moat required to compete with native engine features. The displacement horizon is set to 6 months because the displacement has effectively already occurred with recent Blender stable releases.
