xsar serves a highly specialized scientific niche in Earth Observation. While the star count is modest, the high fork-to-star ratio and institutional backing (UMR LOPS) indicate it is a functional utility in the oceanographic and radar research communities. It successfully bridges domain-specific SAR data formats with the modern Pangeo (xarray/dask) stack. Frontier labs are unlikely to build specific radar backscatter processing tools.
