A unified API gateway and management interface for LLMs, allowing users to route requests across multiple providers and self-hosted models using a single interface.

llm-router is a nascent project (0 stars, 0 days old) entering an extremely crowded and competitive market. It functions as a self-hosted alternative to services like OpenRouter or LiteLLM. While the tech stack is modern (Next.js 15, Better Auth), it lacks a technical moat or novel routing logic that would differentiate it from the industry standard, LiteLLM, which already supports 100+ providers and has massive community adoption. The defensibility is low because the project is a standard CRUD application over LLM APIs without unique datasets, proprietary routing algorithms, or network effects. Frontier labs (OpenAI via 'Project Strawberry' orchestration, Google via Vertex AI) and cloud hyperscalers (AWS Bedrock) are aggressively building unified gateway features, making the displacement risk high. This project currently serves as a clean reference implementation for developers wanting to build their own internal tool but does not yet represent a viable threat to established OS players or commercial gateways.
