An open, declarative specification for defining LLM deployment, serving, and orchestration intent to standardize AI infrastructure operations.

ModelSpec attempts to solve the fragmentation in LLM serving (vLLM, TGI, Triton) by creating a standardized declarative schema. However, with only 1 star and 1 fork after 100+ days, the project lacks the necessary network effects and industry buy-in required to establish a specification standard. Specifications are only as valuable as their adoption; currently, this project functions more as a personal or corporate internal prototype. It faces immense competition from established infrastructure standards like KServe (CNCF), SkyPilot (Berkeley), and the internal deployment schemas used by major cloud providers (AWS SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure AI Foundry). Frontier labs and cloud giants are unlikely to adopt a third-party spec; they prefer to define the standard through their own platform APIs. Without significant backing from major chip (NVIDIA) or serving (vLLM) players, this project is likely to be superseded by more integrated solutions within 6 months.
