This project is a legacy academic artifact, nearly 8 years old with minimal community engagement (14 stars). While the concept of using Reddit's 'Photoshop Battles' as a ground truth for image provenance (lineage of edits) was a clever novel combination of social data and computer vision forensics at the time, it lacks any modern defensibility. The project has zero velocity, and the underlying Reddit API and scraping techniques used are likely deprecated or surpassed by more robust scrapers. In the current landscape, image forensics has shifted toward detecting GAN and diffusion-based manipulations. Frontier labs are unlikely to compete directly as this is a niche research tool, but the methodology itself is easily reproducible by any researcher with a PRAW (Python Reddit API Wrapper) script. Its primary value is as a historical reference for DARPA-style media forensics (MediFor) research rather than a living tool. It is effectively obsolete compared to modern large-scale forensic datasets like FaceForensics++ or those generated by newer synthetic pipelines.
